Nikon Coolpix P80

The Nikon Coolpix P80's standout feature has to be its zoom lens. Dominating the P80's SLR-like body, this Nikkor-branded 18x optical zoom offers both true optical image stabilization, and 35mm equivalent focal lengths ranging from a very useful 27mm wide angle through to an equally impressive 486mm. Given that many consumers are likely to want to take photos in relatively enclosed spaces where they can't just back up a bit to fit everything (or everyone) in, wide angle performance is something that's perhaps overlooked too often in the search for greater telephoto strength. It's great to see a lens that offers plenty of reach at both ends of the zoom ran

Basic Specifications
Resolution:
10.10 Megapixels
Lens: 18.00x zoom
(27-486mm eq.)
Viewfinder: EVF / LCD
LCD Size: 2.7 inch

Nikon Coolpix P5100

The Nikon Coolpix P5100 couples a sensor resolution of 12 megapixels to a Nikkor-branded 3.5x optical zoom lens with optical image stabilization. The Nikon 5100 offers up a 2.5 inches LCD display with a higher-than-average 230,000 pixel resolution, as well as an optical viewfinder -- an increasingly rare option these days, and one that's useful in difficult lighting conditions or when you need to economize on battery life.

For the enthusiast, the Nikon P5100 offers full program, shutter, aperture, and manual exposure modes as well as 15 scene modes appreciated by less experienced photographers. Hi-ISO and movie modes are also provided. Adding to the Nikon P5100's versatility is its compatibility with add-on lens converters, such as Nikon's telephoto and wide-angle lens converters.

Nikon Coolpix P6000

The Nikon Coolpix P6000 has a sensor with 13.5 megapixel resolution, coupled to a Nikkor ED-branded 4x wide angle zoom lens that offers a useful 28mm wide-angle. The lens also includes Optical VR image stabilization, helping reduce camera shake when shooting in low light or towards the 112mm telephoto position. The Nikon P6000 includes both an optical viewfinder, and a fairly large 2.7-inch LCD display with 230,000 dot resolution. Optical viewfinders are an increasingly rare option these days, and one that's useful in difficult lighting conditions or when you need to economize on battery life - so it's great to see Nikon include this on the P6000.

Nikon Coolpix S52

The Nikon Coolpix S52 is a stylish, pocket-friendly digital camera that's very closely related to another digicam alongside which it was announced, the Nikon Coolpix S52c. Where the Nikon S52c offers wireless connectivity though, the Nikon S52 drops this feature in the interest of saving a little cost. The two cameras are largely similar otherwise, however.

The Nikon S52 has an effective sensor resolution of 9.0 megapixels, and in front of the sensor sits a prism-folded 3x optical zoom lens. With Nikkor branding prominent, the lens doesn't need to extend from the camera body on power up thanks to that prism. Instead its entire workings are located safely inside the camera body - hopefully offering improved reliability and a slight power savings since there's no need to extend or retract the lens when the Nikon S52 is powered on or off. 35mm-equivalent focal lengths range from a rather tight 38mm wide angle through to a 114mm telephoto. Focusing is possible down to just 4.6 cm. (1.6 in.) in macro mode. Usefully, the Nikon S52's lens also offers true optical image stabilization, to help fight the effects of camera shake.

Basic Specifications
Resolution:
9.00 Megapixels
Lens: 3.00x zoom
(38-114mm eq.)
Viewfinder: LCD
LCD Size: 3.0 inch
ISO: 100-3200

Nikon Coolpix S52c

The Nikon Coolpix S52c is a stylish, pocket-friendly digital camera that's very closely related to another digicam alongside which it was announced, the Nikon Coolpix S52. Where the Nikon S52 aims to keep cost to a minimum, the Nikon S52c adds one feature that's still fairly uncommon - wireless connectivity. The Nikon S52c can use this Wi-Fi connection to send images to Nikon's "My Picturetown" photo sharing website without the need to physically connect the camera to a computer or remove the flash-card for offloading. The two cameras are largely similar otherwise, however.

The Nikon S52c has an effective sensor resolution of 9.0 megapixels, and in front of the sensor sits a prism-folded 3x optical zoom lens.
